Research on shrimp production and management improvements

From 05 - 10 September 2016, SusV project team and Modern Rural Development Center in the Mekong Deltas (MRCD) have conducted the “research on shrimp production and management improvements” in Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau province.

The primary aim of the research is to describe the status of applying technology and management practices in shrimp production, provide practical and improved technologies and management practices in order to help shrimp producers to optimize energy efficiency, decrease feed/water consumption, conserve soil/nature and protect environment. The research also maps companies and suppliers that will be able to provide the improved technologies and consultancy services.

In order to determine the status of technologies and management practices which shrimp producers have applied, MRCD has conducted surveys, investigations and in-depth interviews with representatives of local government, companies, suppliers of technical solutions seafood, NGOs and fisheries experts, and small scale shrimp producer groups in  Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau province.

The MRCD expert have collected and analyzed relevant data on shrimp farms’ operation, production activities and management practices, specially the research focuses on power/water consumption, feeding management, sludge management, soil quality improvement as well as producers’ attitude in using energy, production management, cooperative management groups...

From the survey’s findings, the consultant team will synthesize the report and provide recommendations for the project and the stakeholders on the appropriate/improved technologies and good management practices to optimize energy/feed/water efficiency and maximize profits.
