White leg shrimp was introduced in Vietnam since 2001 at the experimental level, in 2006, white leg shrimp was allowed to raise from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan province. In 2008, recognizing the big demand for white leg shrimp from local market, meanwhile black tiger shrimp raising was facing the strong competition and disease out breaking hence Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has allowed raising white leg shrimp in the Southern part of Vietnam “Directive No. 228/CT-BNN_NTTS) but only allow to raise white leg shrimp in Intensive and semi-intensive farm to avoid the negative impacts on local species and disease out breaking risk for shrimp raising industry.
